Bernhard Kirschner qualified with B.Com and accountancy degrees, and began programming punch-card computers in 1962. In the early 1960s, he designed, built, and patented an envelope-inserting machine using new technologies such as Teflon bearings and plastic gears with transistor controls and sensors to manage his patented electric clutches.Bernhard opened the first Xerox-based copying and printing service in 1964, one of the first personal computer stores in 1980, and an on-site data backup service in 1984 before the internet era. He went on to launch the first CD burning service in 1992, the first Australian internet cafe in 1993, an automated video-to-CD conversion service in 2002, and the first shop for home testing of sleep apnea in 2005 at Westfield Bondi Junction.
He has also developed software for production control, USB duplication, and ransomware protection.
Bernhard brings considerable committee experience, having founded three trade associations—including one with 250 international members for which he organized conferences in the USA, Europe, and China, and another that helped reform the old sales tax laws.
He has also served on four strata committees, acting at various times as chair or treasurer.
